Carnival In T & T

Trinidad and Tabago carnival is celebrated every year two days before ash wensday As with other Carnivals, many participants wear elaborate costumes, often decorated with feathers and sequins. Carnival "bands" are organized groups made up of participants who pay for costumes fashioned by a designer and assembled by teams of volunteers. The costumed participants dance through the streets to the sounds of a steel band, a soca band or a d.j. - this is called "playing mas'". A unique feature of this parade is that locals and tourists alike participate in the parade of bands. Each band is led by a King and Queen, who wear extremely large costumes, often requiring extensions and wheels to assist the masquerader to carry it through the streets.

Each year at 4 am on Monday, Carnival begins under a cloak of darkness. Fuelled by exhilaration and the energetic rhythms of soca music, revellers take to the streets for the predawn party of J'Ouvert. J'Ouvert (from the French 'jour ouvert' or 'day open') is almost ritualistic in its celebration of the darker elements of the island's folklore and history. Bathed in chocolate, mud, oil and paint, bands of revellers depict devils, demons, monsters and imps. Choose your medium of expression; J'Ouvert is a time for loosening of inhibitions.
Trinidad Carnival is the model for carnivals elsewhere in the Caribbean, and for cities as far away as Toronto, New York, Miami and London. In Trinidad, Port of Spain is naturally the biggest venue, but smaller versions of the festival take place in communities across the island. Anyone can take part just by signing up.

I belive Trinidad has the best canival, but in new york we have some thing close to it but we celebrate it as labor day. unlike trinidad new york carnival has a lot of restriction so to me it not as fun , in the islands we are allowed to rome free and party 24 7 .
Today Trinidad's model for public celebration is the most widely imitated festival art form in the world. Many Trinidadian Carnival artists are able to work year round performing throughout North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. Yet despite this success, many believe the best is yet to come. It will be up to the natives to take this to another level.
